Hi there! It’s been a while since I’ve posted on the blog, but I haven’t stopped thinking about it– life just got in the way. Thankfully, I have a four day weekend and I feel like I can finally take a breath. My current bathroom remodel is spilling over into every room of my house. I haven’t been able to focus enough to write amongst the chaos. Not to mention, it’s very difficult to take pictures with tools dispersed everywhere. But my living room is just about clean, and I’m back to share how I’m refreshing this space.
There is another motivating factor in altering this space. Upon starting the demo of my master bath, the large clock that sits above my mantle was destroyed. If you follow along with my Instagram stories, you’ve probably seen the massacre. Basically, I was storing the clock under my bed during the holidays so my Christmas sign could take its place on the mantle. When sliding my bed out of the way, a post in the middle of the bed frame pierced my poor clock.
When I realized what had just happened, I was full of sorrow for about a minute and a half. Then the excitement of a new clock set in. I love a good excuse to go shopping and that is what I had been given. Since I was getting a new clock, I had the perfect reason to mix up some of the other decor in this space.
Mantle
The mantle is the first thing you see when entering my house, so it has to be perfect at all times (in my opinion). I searched high and low for a new clock but couldn’t find one that was as large as the one I was replacing. So I settled on a smaller size. However, now I needed something to fill the space underneath it. Okay, so since I had to find something new (lol) to put in the gap under the clock, that called for more shopping…. what a bummer 🙂 I found these super cute books and they fit the space so perfectly. Additionally, I love the sweet message they inspire– I can always use some joy.
Due to the immense love I had for the deceased clock, I am surprised to say I love the new one even more. I am very thankful for the turn of events that ended with a new and improved mantle. Now, what else should I “accidentally” break to justify more redecorating??
End Table
I have been wanting a new end table for a while now, but was waiting until after the clutter of Christmas. With the Christmas tree packed away, I re-evaluated the space next to my love seat. The chair is very deep so the new table would need to be large enough so it doesn’t look too wimpy, but slim so it’s not blocking my entryway (which is just to the right of the love seat). Another criteria for the new table was storage. Even if it only has one drawer, I wanted a place to hide extra coasters, remotes, and random things like that (a.k.a. a place to shove junk when company comes over, ya know?).
I found this table on Amazon, after searching for weeks- no exaggeration. If there’s an end table somewhere on the internet, I’ve probably looked at it. I am so picky it’s ridiculous. It was super easy to assemble and it fits so well in my space. It doesn’t look too small next to the other furniture, and it also doesn’t make the entryway feel crowded. I’ll be sad to hide it away next year when my tree goes back up. Or maybe I’ll claim a different spot for the tree.
There are still more changes I want to make in this room, but I’ll pace myself. If I keep my other ideas in my back pocket, I can use them when the room starts to feel a little stale again. Small changes every now and then are great for saving money and keeping a home feeling fresh.
