Growing in Gratitude

Happy 2020! I am not one to set New Year’s resolutions, but I am giving myself one goal to focus on throughout this year–to grow in gratitude. In this new decade, I’m learning to be thankful for what I have and where I am, at this point in my life, even if it’s not exactly where I want to be.

So often, I get caught up in dreaming, constantly thinking of what I wish I had. I want a new coffee table. I wish my couch was comfier. My curtains are ugly. I wish my kitchen was bigger. I would love my living room more if it didn’t have carpet. Its endless. Let’s be real, I’m not going to stop wanting those things, but I can shift my focus to what I already have and be grateful for it.

Forgotten Dreams

Two years ago, I didn’t even think I could afford the condo I currently have. It seemed like a far off dream that was so out of reach I would get stressed just imagining it. Now, here I am in my beautiful condo that I feel like I take for granted. It’s so easy to get caught up in the wishing and forget that I am living in what was once just a dream.

Part of my goal to grow in gratitude is to thank God for what He’s given me. I’ve been dreaming of my forever home since I was little. I used to draw floor plans of beautiful homes for fun–probably the first indication of my passion for all things home lol. Even though my condo is not my forever home, it is still a dream come true. It was something that felt impossible that God brought to me so easily. I want to hold on to that.

One reason I am a huge fan of before and after pictures is because of the instant gratitude they instill. When I look back on what my condo looked like a year ago, all the wanting and wishing goes away.

Unexpected Blessings

Another thing I have to be grateful for is this blog. I started it as a fun way to express myself and share my passion. It’s transformed into a dream I didn’t know I had. The amount of love and support I have received as a result is astounding. Thank you to everyone who has visited my blog, returned to read a new post, followed me on social media, and kind friends who have reached out to me. I am extremely grateful for you! In less than two weeks, this blog has had over 400 views, which might not sound like much, but it’s more than I expected or imagined. I’m so grateful that I took the leap of faith to start this adventure and I am excited to see where it takes me this year.

Thank you all for joining me and taking the time to read my posts. I hope I can help or inspire you in some way. I’d love to hear your resolutions or goals for 2020 in the comments below 🙂
