Winter Tablescape

Hi there! Welcome back to my blog. Christmas is over and we all know what that means–the countdown is on until the decorations have to come down. Personally, I don’t leave anything up past New Year’s Day, but I do let some of my neutral, winter decor stick around for a bit. It’s my transition phase until I’m ready to put my everyday decor back out. In this post, I’ll share my winter tablescape, perfect for after the holidays.

This is the first year that I’ve had my new dining table during the holiday season, and I’ve been so looking forward to staging it. Not wanting to take the tablescape down immediately following Christmas, I knew it needed to be very neutral. Putting the tree away is sad enough on its own. Moment of silence for my beautiful ornaments getting put back in their box.

Back to the table. Along with keeping the design neutral, I also wanted it to feel rustic. Originally, I thought I would use a black and white buffalo check table runner until I found an even better one at Target. I somehow stumbled across it tucked away in the wrapping paper section at the back of the store. It was meant to be. Okay, so the runner was actually way too long for my small table but still… meant to be. It just needed a quick hem.

Greenery

After sewing the table runner (shoutout to my super talented mom for helping me), I went shopping for greenery. I saw this frosted garland at JoAnn Fabrics and thought the color would really pop on the striped runner. Not to mention, it was on sale for 10 bucks! Forever grateful for holiday sales.

The garland looked stunning across the black and white runner, but I wanted more black in the design. While at Joann’s, I also found two candle holders. There were various sizes, but I got the smaller ones since my dining table is not very big. I snaked the garland around the holders for a more unified look. I love the way it adds even more black and white to my color scheme.

To add to the rustic vibe, I envisioned antlers intertwined in the garland. I am picky and only wanted white antlers which I thought was a given, but I seemed to only find shades of brown. After searching around without any luck, I finally found what I had been looking for. Hobby Lobby had ornaments that looked like antlers in my perfect shade of white. They were small too which means more room for my guests to eat on the table. I guess that’s an important factor. Lol. I cut the strings off the ornaments and intertwined the antlers. After a few giddy laughs of success, I was almost finished.

The end of the antler has a teeny tiny hook for the ornament string. I like the option of reusing these as ornaments in the future.

The Piece De Resistance: The Pine Cone

The finishing touch my tablescape needed was pine cones. There is just something about pine cones during the winter. I can’t get enough. The garland already had a few baby ones attached to it, but I wanted more. I added a few that I found at Walmart and some small, glittery ornaments that I had leftover from decorating my tree. Again, I just cut the strings off so it’s not obvious that they are ornaments.

The ornament pine cones are so pretty. I am not usually a glitter lover but these– wow.
These are the larger ones from Walmart.
Peep my Christmas towel still hanging on in the background. I love it so much I don’t want to pack it away.

I am convinced that this table will see many more tablescapes in it’s time, but this one will be hard to beat. Luckily, I get to show it off for the rest of the winter months… or until I get the itch to change it for spring.
