There is just something about making a space beautiful that calls my name. But not my wallet. I always have another project up my sleeve, and my budget strives to keep up with my inspiration. My guest bathroom was a space that I knew right away I didn’t like. As soon as I closed on my condo, I wanted to change everything but again… money. So I decided to get a little creative and do some DIYing.
Here’s a look at what the bathroom looked like before.
As you can see, nothing is really that outdated, it just wasn’t me. The very first thing I wanted to change was the wall color. Something with a hint of blue in it was my inspiration, just not as bold as it was. I used Sherwin Williams Sea Salt to cover up the harsh teal and it only took one coat! I was shocked but so grateful. Painting a small bathroom is no easy task. The new color is breathtaking. Its a green-grey and so calming. I feel like I’m in a spa!
Now that the walls were calmer, it was time for the vanity–which I actually loved already. I really lucked out on that one. I couldn’t have picked out a cuter vanity if I tried. The bead board detail is stunning and really fits the look I wanted for this space. The only thing it lacked was cute knobs (in my haste to get rid of them, I didn’t snap a pic but they were just plain white, wooden knobs) so I popped over to Hobby Lobby to dress it up with new ones. I found these grey and white ones on sale that are so dang cute. It’s the little details that make me so happy I could cry.
Now the vanity and sink top were beautiful, but the faucet was shiny silver. There’s nothing wrong with silver, I just wanted all the fixtures to be black. I knew I couldn’t buy all new fixtures so I decided to spray paint the existing ones. I picked up a can of Rustoleum Paint & Primer in the color Oil Rubbed Bronze and waited for a warm, sunny day.
The faucet, toilet paper holder, and towel bars were all getting spray painted. I roughed them up a little bit with sand paper first, but did not completely sand off the shine because who has time for that? I got tired of sanding and quit. Lol. So I laid down a plastic tarp on my deck and went to work on everything but the faucet. It took about 2-3 coats of paint to fully cover the silver and I let them dry completely for 24 hours before handling them. I am very pleased with the finished product! I can’t say how long the spray paint will hold up, but for now I am very satisfied.
To paint the faucet, I left it completely in place. I used painter’s tape and plastic to cover up the sink bowl and top, as well as the mirror and wall because spray paint goes everywhere. Following the same process as before, I lightly sanded the faucet and then sprayed on 2-3 coats of Rustoleum Paint & Primer in the same color. Very carefully, I sprayed the drain to match, using the painters tape and plastic to cover the sink bowl. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures of the process (I regret that now) but here is the finished product.
I left the vanity light fixture as is because it’s more of a satin nickel look, not as shiny. One of the last things I did was replace the oversized mirror with a wooden framed one that I found at Gordmans for around 30 bucks. I love a good deal. And can we talk about the wood next to the paint color on the wall? All the heart eyes.
The shower curtain and rod are both from Amazon and were inexpensive as well. I found the rug at Home Goods and the towels are all from Target. I splurged a bit on the towels but I couldn’t resist. Just look at how pretty they are!
The floating shelves are possibly my favorite part about this bathroom. I love the opportunity they provide for seasonal decor. I found the shelves at Walmart– they have really great decor lately–and everything on the shelves is either from Home Goods, Gordmans, or Hobby Lobby. When shopping, I looked for pieces with green tones to pull out the green in the wall color and wood items to coordinate with the mirror.
I am so happy with how this bathroom turned out and I didn’t have to spend a fortune to make it exactly what I wanted. Sometimes I stand in this bathroom and just stare at it’s beauty… is that weird? Lucky for me, I’ll be using it as my sole bathroom soon when work on my master bath starts. Stay tuned for that!
